Important dates to remember for City of Rome taxpayers
Filing or renewals of exemptions should be done from January 1 to Taxable Status Date each year (the last Tuesday in July).
Grievance Day is always the first Tuesday in August each year. Applications and the instruction booklet for grievance can be obtained from the Assessor's office starting June 1 of each year and should be filed from July 15 through Grievance Day.
Note: No changes to any parcel can be made after Taxable Status Date (the last Tuesday in July each year). Final Roll Date is September 15 each year.
In addition to Grievance Day, residential property owners may file a Small Claims Assessment Review: The last date by which an owner of a one, two, or three family residence and eligible vacant land may apply for Small Claims Assessment Review of the Board of Assessment Review (BAR) determination, is 30 days after the filing of the final assessment roll. Or, the property owner may file an Article 7 Certiorari Writ, a legal action pursuant to Article 7 of the Real Property Tax Law challenging an assessment, which must be filed in State Supreme Court no later than 30 days after the date the final assessment roll is filed.
